Motorists, cyclists and pedestrians are being warned to watch out for icy patches today, with a severe weather warning in place for ice and snow.

Two weather warnings are in place for Wales for Sunday.

What do the weather warnings say?

The Met Office issued a severe weather warning for snow and ice which covers north Wales

The first, a severe weather warning for snow and ice, is in place until 11.55pm on Sunday - covering much of north Wales.

Frequent, heavy hail and snow showers are expected throughout Sunday and will lead to snow accumulating, with warnings of longer journey times by road, bus and rail, and the chance of vehicles becoming stranded and power cuts.

The chief forecaster's assessment warns of cold conditions, with a mixture of clear spells and wintry showers continuing through Sunday, and temperatures falling rapidly on Sunday evening. As much as 2-5cm of snow is forecast to accumulate in affected areas above 200m.

What about the second weather warning?

The ice weather warning covering Wales from February 11-12

A severe weather warning is in place from 5pm on Sunday to 10am on Monday, covering all of Wales.

Icy patches are expected to form on untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths on Sunday night and Monday morning, the Met Office said, which "is likely to lead to some injuries from slips and falls".

Driving conditions on the A470 at Crimea Pass, Blaenau Ffestiniog, was "hazardous" on Sunday due to snow, while a maximum temperature of 5°C was forecast for Sunday.

In north Wales, Pen-Y-Pass, Bylchau, Corwen and Llangollen are all due to see light snow around midday on Sunday, with Llanwddyn and Trawsfynydd set to see heavy snow, continuing into the early evening.

Further south, Newtown is set to see a day of sleet showers, before a night of snow showers. Llanidloes is forecast to see heavy snow on Sunday afternoon and evening, while Rhayader and Llandrindod Wells are forecast to see snow, while Brecon is set to see sleet.

In south Wales, the Met Office say heavy snow is expected in Ebbw Vale, with snow showers in Ystradfellte and Abertillery, and sleet showers in Merthyr Tydfil and Pontypool. Cardiff is set to see sleet and light snow showers on Sunday night.

On Sunday evening, Brecon, Merthyr and Mountain Ash are set to see heavy snow, with snow showers in Blaenau Gwent, Caerphilly, and Swansea.

In west Wales, New Inn and Crosswell are set to see sleet between sunny and cloudy intervals, before a cloudy night on Sunday.
