Manchester City needed an injury-time Sergio Aguero goal to earn a 2-1 win over Bristol City in the first leg of their 2018 Carabao Cup semi-final on January 9.

As a result, the Sky Blues are heavy favourites to book their spot in the final despite Tuesday's second leg taking place at the Championship side's Ashton Gate Stadium.

Pep Guardiola is looking to win his first trophy as Sky Blues manager and his side need only ensure they do not lose to the Robins in order to earn a shot at claiming the first silverware of the season at Wembley Stadium on February 25.

Read on for a preview of the clash, along with scheduling and viewing details.

City got back to winning ways on Saturday as they followed their 4-3 defeat to Liverpool—their first Premier League loss of the season—with a 3-1 win over Newcastle United at the Etihad Stadium.

It was the perfect response from Guardiola's men and proof that a single defeat would not derail City's remarkable 2017-18 season.

Aguero netted a hat-trick against the Magpies and, if he plays, could prove a thorn in the side of Bristol City again given he is in phenomenal goalscoring form.

Guardiola is likely to make a number of changes for Tuesday's clash, but such is the depth of City's squad there is little chance he will put out a weak starting XI.

In the first leg, Leroy Sane, Raheem Sterling and Kevin De Bruyne all started, and the Sky Blues manager is likely again to start some of his stars in an attempt to put the tie to bed early.

If the Premier League leaders get the first goal at Ashton Gate it will be a long way back for the hosts, not least as they will have to push forward even more and leave themselves vulnerable at the back.

Bristol City go into Tuesday's clash having earned a point in a 0-0 draw with Derby County on Friday to end a run of five defeats on the bounce in all competitions.

Per the Bristol Post's Aidan McCartneygoalkeeper Frank Fielding and defender Nathan Baker were both forced off through injury against the Rams and are doubtful for the Carabao Cup clash.

Had the Robins held out for a draw in the opening leg, they would be in with a decent, if still slim, chance of booking their spot in the final in front of their home fans on Tuesday.

They could have sat back and soaked up City's pressure and looked to score on the break to pull off a shock or force extra-time and penalties.

As it is, they will have to go looking for at least one goal and may then open themselves up to City's devastating counter-attacking.

The Manchester outfit's lead in the tie is slender, but given the quality in Guardiola's ranks it means they are a shoo-in to make the final.
