A preview of what's on the calendar in the European trading session today

Howdy, everyone! Hope you're all having a good day. The FX side of things have been a little quiet in comparison to overnight moves in the US session. Here's a snapshot of the major bloc performance so far today - benchmarked against the dollar:

Anyway, here is what's coming up on the calendar for today's European session:

0700 GMT - China Q4 & YTD 2017 GDP reading

0700 GMT - China December retail sales data

0700 GMT - China December industrial production data

The big one is GDP data. Earlier, a NRDC official mentioned that the 2017 figure would be +6.9%. Not expected to be a major market mover, maybe more towards Asian currencies - but possibly affecting the AUD and NZD as well. As with Chinese data formalities, sometimes the data point can be released earlier or later than the expected time.

0800 GMT - ECB's Weidmann & Coeure speaks in Frankfurt (with IMF's Lagarde)

It's a joint-conference between the Bundesbank and the IMF. Should have more things related to Germany, but I wouldn't rule out further euro jawboning at this point.

That's all for the European trading session. A very light one on the day with no economic data points from Europe (unless you want to count bond auctions). Also, French president Macron is visiting the UK today so there may be headlines on that and Brexit stuff FYI.

Alright, I hope you all have a good day ahead and as always, good luck with your trading!
