After 15 years on the Lower East Side, Il Laboratorio del Gelato is adding a Greenwich Village branch. It may look familiar since the owner Jon Snyder’s intent is to mimic the flagship bright-white dipping shop on the corner of Ludlow and East Houston Streets, down to the rotating menu of 48 flavors. The new location includes a holiday ice cream layer cake with chocolate-Kahlúa and eggnog gelatos, crushed amaretto cookies and a frosting of crunchy pink peppermint-stick gelato. The cake is available in three sizes ($39 to $89; with the smallest size on hand, and the larger ones to order with three day’s notice), and come January, gelato sandwiches will be assembled to order: Il Laboratorio del Gelato, 56 University Place (10th Street), 212-343-9922, laboratoriodelgelato.com.
