Android 8.1 comes out of beta, official factory images and OTA files are live [DOWNLOAD]

Nexus/Pixel users who have been dying to get their hands on Android 8.1 — and didn’t want to bother enrolling in the beta — can finally do so starting today. Google has made available the necessary system images and the OTA files for the downloading, flashing and/or sideloading.

It’s worth noting that if you’re coming from Android 8.1 DP2, there seems to be an issue with sideloading the OTA as the official build is apparently older than Developer Preview, resulting in an error. These problems are all too commonplace, so in the meantime you’ll want to wait for a fix which could come in the form of a regular OTA update.

Android 8.1 brings a handful of new enhancements like UI tweaks to prevent burn-in, slightly revised emoji, and enables the Pixel Visual Core for app developers to begin using HDR+ inside their own apps.

For those that don’t want to bother with ADB on their devices, you’ll have wait for the official OTA to begin rolling out, something that can take up to a week, so try to be patient. Android 8.1 is currently only available for the Pixel 2, Pixel 2 XL, Pixel, Pixel XL, Nexus 6P, Nexus 5X, and Pixel C.
