The Trusted Original

Lowepro was born from one daring mountaineer’s desire to capture some of the world’s most unexplored beauty spots, with just a camera in tow. Greg Lowe made it his mission to create only the best in innovative, cutting-edge equipment, to protect extreme sporting lovers’ cameras and cinematography equipment from the heart-pounding elements.

The humble Colorado garage beginning of one of the world’s first Internal Frame Backpacks in 1967 pays tribute to Lowe’s enduring belief that he could be the one to design a close-fitting and supportive backpack to transport camera and recording equipment that had otherwise never been seen before. Climbers, mountain bikers, skiers and hikers could now comfortably carry their equipment to heights that only they had known, capturing intimate sights for the rest of the world to see.

Lowe’s first defying feat paved the way for the original Soft-sided Protective Camera Bag, also to be one of the first of its time.

Perfect Day Bag!

Perfect Day Bag!
The mission...a lightweight "minimalist" bag that can hold my D810, 20-200 f/2.8 VRII, 50mm (or 85) f1.8 prime, my 17-35 f/2.8 and Peak Designs Slide Strap. I didn't care if the 70-200 was in the bag mounted on the camera. As long as it was in the bag that was okay.I didn't want a lot of padding nor pockets to add weight and bulk. No tripod/ball head hangars, straps or hooks. I wanted the smallest possible sling style bag to hold just the gear noted so I can have access to good glass to cover 17-200mm for general "walk around" purpose...architecture, street, local events, etc. Bag size, weight and carry comfort were of paramount importance.Aviation shoots or wildlife sessions with my 200-500/tripod/sidekick and treks through the woods or mountains is a different mission and requires a different bag. Ditto landscape work and floral/macro tripod work. Vacation events, family parties, etc., with my D810 or D500 and single mid-range zoom like my 24-120 f/4 is also a different gig needing an even smaller bag.I was having such a difficult time finding what I needed. Everything was either too big or too small...too many pockets, too much padding/bulk. I finally found the answer with the Lowepro Passport Sling III. It is absolutely perfect for the intended purpose. The only thing it has which I just don't need is a side pouch for an iPad. I may even cut that out....I don't need my iPad when I am out taking pictures. The only thing I plan to add is an Altura pouch for my 70-200. But, with that said, you can actually fit the Nikon CL-M2 case for the 70-200 in the rear of the bag if you unzip the expansion compartment. Otherwise, the 70-200 fits just fine with the expansion zipper closed. If you want a bag with massive amounts of padding so your stuff can survive a train wreck or 4-foot fall this is not it. If you want to carry a tripod/ball head, tons of extra do-dads like strobes, reflectors, filters, etc., also not it. For mountain treks and rain forest jaunts, a backpack is better suited. This probably is not the best bag for pro wedding work either (can't carry enough stuff).Though it is a light weight bag, construction is great and will easily carry the stuff noted without tearing or breaking (like the plastic strap clasps that have broken on me on other bags!). It is not water proof nor does it have flaps on the zippers. For a simple lightweight, efficient day bag, I found the Lowepro Sling III to be absolutely perfect! Recommended for the intended mission!

I was looking for a new camera bag when I stumbled across this one. I first saw the Sling II and was intrigued, not realizing there was a newer version with a tablet pocket. Found this and could not be happier. Used it for the first time a week ago and was so happy with it. It is definitely a tablet pocket and not for a laptop. It is very small and does not even come close to being able to fit my Surface 3 in the pocket. However, if I expand the bag and make it bigger I can fit the Surface outside of the pocket in the main bag compartment between the tablet pocket and the camera insert. I would only need to do this for traveling, not everyday use though.
    Other things I like:
Great zippered mesh pocket on the interior that I did not discover until about an hour into using the bag. Happy discovery! Now I have a place to put some spare memory cards, spare batter, money, lip stuff, etc.
The camera insert can be configured a little bit, which I did. I carry a Canon Rebel T5i with a larger better quality lens attached (not using stock lens, nor do I carry it with me). You could configure it to carry the camera and a spare lens, but I preferred to make the spot for the camera larger so I could position the camera side ways for ease of pulling out of the bag. The spot on the other side is smaller and will be reserved for our next trip to take our waterproof Olympus camera for snorkeling and other water adventures. I still have room to fit spare batter for each camera or other accessories.
Still lots of room at the rear of the bag behind the camera insert for whatever you may need. My last use I threw my wallet in the tablet pocket and any goodies we purchased behind the camera insert. Did not even need to expand that bag yet.
Plenty of exterior pockets, A slim pocket on the front and back of the back.Plus a larger one on the side (depending on how you carry the bag this might be considered the front for you). I carry this cross body and find this the most comfortable. Larger exterior pocket fit a water bottle perfectly and any other items I wanted to grab quickly. Kept my cell phone in the slim pocket on the back, closest to my body so I always knew where it was. I would like to see one of the slim pockets have some type of closure - maybe zippered or velcro. They are all open.
Love, love, love the adjustablility of the strap, so easy to use on or off body. This will come in handy when my husband wants to use it as well, quickly hand the bag over to him and readjust.
I imagine I would use this other times when I am not carrying the camera as well, but have not tried this yet. Will update after next trip if I have any new revelations about the bag.
Great bag and if you're on the fence about it, just do it already you will not be unhappy. I think the price point (at least on Amazon) is excellent and well worth it!

4.0 out of 5 stars Good for travel
Reviewed in India on May 22, 2021
The best thing I like about this bag is it doesn't look like a camera bag. It is designed keeping this in mind as well. It can hold a mirrorless with one lens attached and another small prime by the side. I, however, find the internal camera unit to be a bit on the smaller side. I keep a Fuji x-t4 attached with a 16-55 2.8 and 35mm 1.4 by the side and find it to be a tight fit. I have hence bought a lens pouch and keep the secondary lens outside of the camera unit inside the bag. Plenty of room for other stuff related/unrelated to camera gear. A folded tripod can go inside this as well. Nice bag to slug around while travelling and giving quick access to the gear. I am very pleased with the product and would recommend this to anyone looking for a bag for travel/street photography.

    5.0 out of 5 stars
Reviewed in Japan on November 28, 2024

5.0 out of 5 stars Geräumige, leichte Tasche
Reviewed in Germany on December 10, 2017
