You can now unlock Rex’s armor from Xenoblade Chronicles 2 for free in Zelda: Breath of the Wild and here is how you can find it.

Much like the other armor sets in Breath of the Wild, Rex’s armor comes in three parts. On starting up Breath of the Wild you will now be greeted with a new Xenoblade Chronicles 2 sub-quest. The hints you get are a bit cryptic, so here is a more straightforward explanation of where you can find the armor pieces.

  1. The first piece of armor can be located by going to the middle section of the Bridge of Hylia at night and looking southward. After a while, a red shooting star will impact on the ground near your location. You can make your way over to it and find a red glowing chest with an armor piece inside.
  2. The second piece of armor is located in the top right corner of Hyrule. Warp to Zuna Kai Shrine in the center of the skull formation and look eastward for another red shooting star at night. Again, after a while, the star will impact revealing a red glowing chest with an armor piece inside.
  3. The third and final piece of armor is located in the top left part of Hyrule and you will need to make it to the summit of Hebra Peak. Looking southeast at night will result in another red shooting star and a red glowing chest wherever it lands. Inside the chest is the last piece of armor.

With each shooting star, you also have a new sound effect to denote its presence, which helps to track it down. You also don’t have to wait too long for these new shooting stars to appear either; so acquiring all three armor pieces can be done in one night.

Like the other DLC armor, Rex’s outfit cannot be upgraded, which is a shame. However, once equipped you will receive a swim dash stamina boost, which makes sense as Rex is clearly wearing diving gear in Xenoblade Chronicles 2.

Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is released for the Nintendo Switch on December 1.
