Andy Murray reveals how he will spend Christmas as he prepares for Australian Open return

ANDY MURRAY has revealed that the will spend Christmas away from the UK to ensure he is best prepared for the Australian Open.

The Scot is expected to fly to Miami this weekend to step up his training regime ahead of his return next year.

The 30-year-old is on the mend from a hip injury which has kept him out for the last four months.

Murray will have a short break over the Christmas period with his family in Brisbane to acclimatise to the conditions.

Meanwhile, the former world number one has recently set up a sports management company, 77, where he will look to guide young stars of the future.

Golfer Matthew Fitzpatrick, tennis player Aidan McHugh and sprinters Shannon and Cheriece Hylton are the only current athletes under Murray’s regime.

The move shows that Murray currently has one eye on life after tennis.

But he is keen to work closely with them, alongside his own commitments.

“When you start out on a career in sport, it's not easy for athletes or their families to make the right decisions or find the right people to trust,” said Murray.

“Growing up I made decisions that, with experience, I might not have made now. The three athletes we are working with are all bright, hard-working athletes, who are doing plenty of things right, but if I can offer them some advice along the way, then great.

The Scot was runner up at the 2016 Australian Open.

“I’m looking forward to building a stable of talent across a variety of different sports.”

The Australia Open gets underway on Monday, January 15.

Rafael Nadal will head into the new year as the number one player in the world after a sublime 2017.

Roger Federer will start second, while Murray is way back in 16th after an injury-ridden campaign.

However, his ranking should soon go up with a strong start to the new season.
