The Intriguing RPG 'Vampyr' Is Getting A Behind-The-Scenes Video Series

Vampyr is one of the more intriguing games scheduled for release this year. It’s set in London during the flu pandemic of 1918 that killed an estimated 50 to 100 million people, which corresponds to 3% to 5% of the world’s population at that time. As if the people of London didn't have enough to fear, they are also being preyed upon by vampires. And your character is one of them.

You can slaughter London’s citizens at will if you wish, but doing so will close out the quest lines and stories your victims take with them to the grave. You will also betray your Hippocratic Oath for your character is a doctor who is devoted to helping people, not draining their blood for personal gain. How you handle this conflict lies at the heart of Vampyr.

Vampyr was originally scheduled for release last November, but was delayed until Spring 2018. Focus Home Interactive, Vampyr’s publisher, is making the delay a little easier to bear with a web series of short videos designed to share developer Dontnod Entertainment’s creative process with fans. The first of the 5-minute videos will be released on January 18th with a new episode released each week.

There are four videos in the series.

  • Episode I: Making Monsters
  • Episode II: Architects of the Obscure
  • Episode III: Human After All
  • Episode IV: Stories From the Dark

If Dontnod Entertainment sounds familiar, it’s because they created the critically and commercially successful Life is Strange series. On the face of it, Vampyr is not what you might expect from the creators of Life is Strange, but we saw that a radical shift can result in resounding success when Guerrilla Games transitioned from the Killzone series to last year’s stunning Horizon Zero Dawn. If Guerrilla can do it, maybe Dontnod can too. But, hey, no pressure.
