OBJECTIVE: The purpose of the Marketing and Value Chain Advisor (MVCA) is to coordinate and provide technical support to the marketing and value chain development for identified products from the operational areas of the FSF project. The MVCA will lead the design, planning and implementation of technical interventions under the marketing and value-chain component of the FSF Project and provide continuous technical guidance and capacity building support to field level staff. The incumbent will conduct value-chain analysis and market assessment and assist and coordinate the marketing and value chain functions in the all operational areas under FSF project. Likewise, she/he will ensure that the marketing and value chain activities at various levels are performed as planned and to bring about the desired impact through monitoring, evaluation, research and documentation of lessons learnt. He/she will travel to the operational areas on a regular basis.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS:
Program Planning and Implementation
· Assist/coordinate in identifying, commissioning and/or conducting appropriate data collection and analysis including participatory gender-sensitive value chain and market analysis;
· Coordinate and lead the development of marketing and value-chain development plan and strategy for the FSF project,
· Guide and support the preparation of marketing and value-chain related work plans for field office operations ;
· Lead and coordinate the marketing and value chain related functions in the field by providing continuous technical guidance and capacity building to field staff, beneficiaries and partners;
· Review activity and evaluation reports, compile and share lessons for programme quality improvement;
· Conduct regular monitoring visits to project operational areas and prepare and submit monitoring/field visit report to project management;
Capacity Building and Monitoring and evaluation
· Identify potential capacity building needs and provide training in relevant market promotion and value chain development (value chain financing mechanisms, gender sensitive value chains...);
· Monitor and oversight the process and timely implementation of the marketing and value-chain activities as agreed in the work plan, ensure coherence between agreed approaches and tools and provide guidance for the achievement of the desired results;
· Prepare and maintain high quality reports and documentation on marketing and value chain activities;
· Organize/facilitate training courses on marketing and value-chain development to field level experts, target beneficiaries, and relevant stakeholders and private sector;
Learning, Documentation and Knowledge Management:
· Compile lessons learned and create a database/archive of practical resources on marketing and value chain upgrading at the local level;
· Implement maintain up to date monitoring and evaluation and knowledge management system in the marketing and value chain areas and good practices across the country and outside;
· Ensure collection of accurate and up to information on marketing and value-chain development from field offices under the FSF Project;
· Maintain and make accessible project information on marketing and value chain activities using appropriate database management system;
Partnership and Networking
· Identify and facilitate market linkages and also links with other relevant private sector, government entities and existing initiatives to develop value chains and promote coherence, experience sharing and mutual learning;
· Liaison with national programs in agricultural marketing including organizations engaged in value chain development.
· Ensure effective communication on agricultural marketing and value-chain development concepts and practices within the organization, local partners and stakeholders.
Leadership and Representation
· Coach the field level staff to build their technical and function capacity in marketing and value-chain,
· Promote transparent and accountable practices;
· Represent FSF project/CARE and contribute on marketing and value-chain discussions at different levels,
· Identify and promote learning and lessons in the area of marketing and value-chain for scale up of good practices;
QUALIFICATIONS (KNOW HOW)
A) EDUCATION/TRAINING
Required:
· B.A. Degree in Agricultural Development, Business Administration, Economics and Marketing or other closely related field.
Desired
· MA/MSc in Economics, Marketing, Agriculture, Business Management and other relevant field.
B) EXPERIENCE:
· 5 years of work experience in agricultural marketing and/or value chain development, business development, entrepreneurship development.
