Some Android Oreo users are having trouble getting contacts to sync

0

Google has been hard at work bringing Android Oreo 8.1 to Pixel 2 devices, but this latest update may have messed something up for some users. Several reports on the official Google Product Forums have revealed people are having issues getting their contacts to sync in the Account Sync settings menu.

The error message, “Sync is currently experiencing problems. It will be back shortly.” appears and nothing changes, while other Google services like Gmail and Calendar continue to sync normally. The issue seems to arise when Contacts have a link associated with them, but troubleshooting has determined a fix for the issue.

How to fix Pixel 2 contact sync issue

  1. Go to System Settings and select Apps.
  2. Tap show all, then tap three dots to show System Apps.
  3. Find Contacts Storage and tap it.
  4. Tap Storage and then tap clear app data.

What’s interesting is that most of the people with the issue report that the links associated with the contact were generated through their association with Google+, so something isn’t playing right with that integration. Most of those affected seem to have original Pixel or Pixel 2 devices, but sync issues from a OnePlus 5 owner was also reported.
