90 min+1: Matuidi taken out along the left flank by Pique, who is shown a yellow. Clear foul, that. Moments later, Dybala rips a low shot from the edge of the area that forces a diving save from a fully extended Ter Stegen. It’s out for a corner. Wow!

90 min: Juventus committing numbers forward here as they make a last push. The fourth official signals for three minutes of stoppage time.

87 min: Digne drags down his assignment and he’s shown a yellow card.

86 min: One last change for Juventus as Matuidi comes on for Douglas Costa.

83 min: The crowd swells as Douglas Costa has a shot on goal but it misses the target and hardly threatens Ter Stegen.

82 min: Jordi Alba enters for Iniesta, who walks off to a standing ovation from the Juventus supporters. How lovely.

79 min: Juventus are throwing more numbers forward but when they’re dispossessed, Suarez wins a found from Sandro, who’s already on a yellow but avoids further discipline from the referee.

76 min: Fifteen minutes to go and no goal in sight. Can someone break through and shake this one up?

72 min: Sandro is whistled for a foul on Semedo and shown a yellow card by the referee.

71 min: A second switch for Juventus as Marchisio enters for Cuadrado.

68 min: Oh dear! A heaven-sent chance for Barcelona squandered as Juve have a mix-up in the back leading to a one-on-one with Digne and Buffon but Digne opts to pass and like that it’s gone.

66 min: Juventus have made their first substitution as Bentancur, making his 11th appearance for Juve, for Pjanic, who was on a booking early on today.

64 min: Messi’s free kick is just high. Audible frustration starting to mount among the home supporters.

63 min: Suarez wins a foul from Benatia from a dangerous spot and Messi will take it.

61 min: The in-form Higuain, bottled so effectively by Pique tonight, manages to break free on the edge of the area and have a go on goal, but the shot is well off target.

59 min: Dybala has a shot on goal blocked by Iniesta and it’s out for a corner. Dybala takes it but nothing comes of it.

56 min: And here comes Messi. He’s entered the match for Deulofeu. Twenty-three goals in 23 appearances for club and country this year, although none in his last three games.

55 min: A ball is played to Suarez, who tries to flick it with the outside of his foot to Deulofeu, but he can’t quite maneuver it. What a pretty opportunity that might have been. Now Suarez is down with very incidental contact and has earned an earful from the crowd.

53 min: Barcelona have really dominated possession so far unlike anything we saw in the first half. And now it looks as if Messi will be entering ...

51 min: Rakitic plays the corner toward the far post and Pique has a shot blocked. It’s out for another corner for the visitors. Deulofeu delivers this one and it’s less threatening with Barca’s spell of possession ultimately petering out.

50 min: Suarez’s free kick sails over the bar but it appears to have taken a slight deflection and Barcelona will have a corner.

49 min: Khedira is whistled for another foul on Iniesta, picking up right where they left off in the first half. He was held as he carried an interception into the danger zone. Smart, tactical foul but Barca will have a free kick from a dangerous area. Suarez stands over it.

46 min: And we’re back under way for the second half.

From an aesthetic viewpoint, I’m disappointed that Barça aren’t using their classic blaugrana striped kit, even though it is an away match. Judging by the photo accompanying your coverage, they look like AS Roma today!

Scoreless in Turin. Barcelona have failed to find the score sheet in three of their last four away Champions League games. Though supporters will no doubt take heart in the secret weapon stashed away for emergency.

45 min+1: Suarez has a go from distance, his first real opportunity of the match, and it skips harmlessly wide of the goal.

45 min: The fourth official calls for one minute of stoppage time.

44 min: Dybala takes the long way around a gaggle of Barcelona defenders and rips a left-footed shot on goal that soars above the Ter Stegen and the target.

42 min: Higuain, who’s scored in five straight appearances but has yet to make an impact so far (thanks to Pique), is whistled for a foul in Iniesta, who it must be said has kept a similarly low profile on the day.

38 min: Suarez, so quiet this evening, makes a breakneck run into the area but the flag goes up and he’s offside by some distance.

37 min: Some nifty interplay and improvisation in the final third for Juventus, but Cuadrado’s shot off a cushion-header set-up from the edge of the area sails far above the crossbar into the stands.

34 min: Khedira appears to grasp the face of Umtiti while vying for the ball. Not a foul, per se, bad as it looked. But the referee awards one anyway and Barcelona take over possession near the halfway line.

30 min: A big moment for the Serbian referee Milorad Mazic at the half-hour mark as Paulinho crashes to the turf in the area on what appears to be incidental contact. Rather than point to the spot, Mazic steps forward and shows the midfielder a yellow for simulation. Correctly, the replay confirms.

28 min: Deulofeu is ruled offside on a Barcelona attack.

25 min: Alex Sandro slips past Deulofeu and wins a free kick near the corner flag on the left-hand side. It’s delivered toward the top of the area, but Cuadrado can’t reach it before it’s cleared toward the halfway line.

23 min: A golden chance for Barcelona off a Rakitic free kick as the ball makes it through everyone and caroms off the post. It falls to Paulinho but he’s unable to negotiate it on target.

21 min: Pjanic is shown a yellow card for a foul on Iniesta. Would have been worse for Juve if he hadn’t made it.

18 min: A chance for Dybala but it’s thwarted by Ter Stegen.

17 min: Cuadrado’s attempted clearance very nearly falls to Iniesta for a point-blank opportunity, but the Barca veteran is unable to control it before it’s over the touch line for a goal kick.

14 min: Barcelona are dispossessed after a long spell of possession and Juve are quick on the counter with Cuadrado finding Costa in full sprint on the left flank, but Costa’s cross can’t find a target man and it’s back to Barca.

I’m hoping that Gigi Buffon makes a dozen spectacular and match-saving games from now until the final, where he runs up and heads in the winning goal on the 97th minute. No real reason other than he seems a decent fellow, and after Italy’s elimination from the World Cup qualifiers, must be feeling like the last elephant left in the tribe.

10 min: Barcelona build it up from the back with a minute-long sequence of uninterrupted passes until Paulinho has a go from about 30 yards after a nice exchange with Suarez, but it takes a deflection en route and misses the target wide.

8 min: Pjanic wins a foul in Juve’s half when he’s nicked at from behind by Paulinho. Intimidating pace from Douglas Costa and Cuadrado have the hosts on the front foot early.

4 min: An positive start for both sides with lots of open play. It’s Juve on the attack, but Costa’s cross into the area is turned away by Pique and now it’s Barca on the counter.

2 min: Douglas Costa has the first chance of the game from inside the area but Ter Stegen makes the save at the near post.

1 min: And they’re off! Barcelona attacking right to left to right in their third kits, Juve from right to left in traditional home strips.

Hello and welcome to today’s Champions League group stage match between Juventus and Barcelona. It’s been 225 days since Barca were toppled 3-0 at the Juventus Stadium in the first leg of their quarter-final tie last year, leading to their elimination after a goalless return leg and spelling the effective demise of Luis Enrique’s tenure at the club. They’ll look to avenge that setback today with the opportunity afoot to finish top of Group D with a game to spare.

Juventus trail the La Liga frontrunners Barca by three points in the group and while they’ve clinched no worse than a Europa League place with two games remaining, a defeat today at home would leave them at risk of not qualifying for the Champions League knockout stage.

Kick-off is just about 35 minutes from now. We’ll be back with the teams in short order.

FC Barcelona pulled out of Butarque on an angular blue and orange bus that looked like it had been borrowed from a school trip in the 90s a bit before seven on Saturday evening and headed 30 kilometres north up the M40 to the airport at Barajas, their work done. Half of it, anyway. Nearby, just about visible from the terminal, stood the Wanda Metropolitano, where the rest of it was done for them. Not long after Barça had set off, and a couple of hours after Alavés had passed on their way north back up the A1 to Euskadi, Real Madrid embarked upon the shortest journey they’ve undertaken in La Liga, making the 10-minute trip from their HQ at Valdebebas to Atlético’s new home. It was a short trip, but when they returned a little before midnight, broken and bloodied, it felt like a long way back. For Barcelona, it had been a grand day out.
