Hamilton: Lin-Manuel Miranda, Leslie Odom Jr., Phillipa Soo's last day

It’s been a long journey for Lin-Manuel Miranda and his Hamilton cast. Previews for the Broadway musical began more than a year ago ahead of its official opening on Aug. 6, 2015. Since then, Hamilton scooped up a record-breaking amount of Tony Award nominations, fans found joy in the Ham4Ham lotteries, and Miranda himself became a prominent pop culture figure.

That’s what makes July 9 all the more bittersweet for the ensemble. While Hamilton is ready to embrace a new crop of actors, Miranda and his fellow stars Leslie Odom Jr. and Phillipa Soo are about to make their exit. Fans have the Hamilton film to look forward to, but Saturday marks the trio’s last performances in their scene-stealing roles alongside the original cast members.

“Thanks to all for the love and support the past 2 yrs,” Soo, whose performance as Eliza Hamilton earned a Tony nomination for leading actress, tweeted. “I will cherish #Hamilton and everyone [at] the RR Theatre. Til next time, folks!”

Odom, who’s ready to embark on a new jazz venture, posted a photo from his dressing room with his wife, Nicolette Robinson, on Friday. “An angel helped me box up this dressing room tonight. 2 more,” he wrote on Instagram. The Aaron Burr actor won the Tony for Actor in a Leading Role in a Musical, at which point he told Miranda in his acceptance speech, “God bless you. You’ve given us a new vision of what’s possible.”

Miranda made his Hamilton exit official in June with the announcement that Javier Muñoz would take over his title role beginning July 11. A modern renaissance man, Miranda has already kept busy by contributing music to Disney’s animated movie Moana and Star Wars: The Force Awakens. He’s also set to star opposite Emily Blunt in the live-action Mary Poppins Returns, as The Weinstein Co. prepares to adapt his breakout musical, In the Heights, for the big screen.

Until before any of that happens, Miranda still has some goodbyes of his own to make. The actor posted a behind-the-scenes GIF of his castmates, including Jonathan Groff, as well as a throwback to when he was composing Hamilton five years ago. “It is very hard to write raps from the perspectives of people who are way, way smarter than you,” he wrote in a Facebook post from 2011. “Jefferson and Hamilton are going to make my f–king brain explode.”
