Sheriff Chris Davis told The Tennessean that Greer, who graduated this year from Dickson County High School, was tubing in the Tennessee River near the lake when he fell in. Rob Edwards, the chief deputy for the sheriff’s office, said Greer was wearing a life jacket.

Davis said 20 to 30 boats began searching for the teen around 4 p.m. Sunday, and according to the Associated Press, that number soon rose to nearly 50.

Though it is not yet known what caused Greer to fall in, according to The Tennessean, Davis noted “there’s always hazards in the area that could’ve contributed to the accident.”

Morgan, 51, and wife Karen Greer are asking for privacy as they mourn their son. “The family is grateful for the outpouring of support and requests prayers at this time as they privately mourn this terrible loss,” the rep said.

In June, the “Almost Home” singer shared with Fox News his thoughts on parenting and the advice that he gives his children daily.

“Every day my wife and I understand that we are building young men and women. They’re going to take over for us as citizens,” he said at the time. “[I tell them to] live. Enjoy your life because nothing is guaranteed and every day is a blessing.”

Jerry, who planned to play football for Marshall University in the fall, is survived by his parents, sister Aly Beaird and brothers Kyle and Wyatt.
