Google Now on Tap update brings Discover mode, text translation from any screen, and more
Google has just announced an update to Now on Tap that will bring handy new features like text translation from any screen, a new Discover mode, and barcode/QR code scanning.
One of the biggest new features in this update is the ability to translate text from any screen. Now whether you’re in an application or looking at a webpage, just long-press the home button and tap the “Translate this screen” card. Now on Tap will then translate the text on your screen into your phone’s language. This will come in handy in a variety of circumstances. For instance, if you’re using Google Maps and come across a restaurant review in a foreign language, you’ll be able to translate that review instantly.
The new translate feature is only available for phones with the language set to English, French, Italian, German, Spanish, Portuguese and Russian.

Back in June, Google brought a new image searching feature to Now on Tap that would allow users to search for things in Google by using their camera app. Today, Google is expanding that feature to include barcodes and QR codes. This means you’ll now be able to point your camera at a barcode or QR code, long-press the home button, and pull up user reviews and more detailed information about that product. This will also work for packaged products, books, DVDs and more.
