Truck carrying 20,000 pounds of cheese stolen from Oak Creek, police say
Cheese valued at about $46,000
A trailer containing 20,000 pounds of cheese was stolen early Thursday while it was parked near an Oak Creek business.Police Capt. Mike Bolender said the trailer was taken about 2 a.m. from a parking lot near 27th Street and Drexel Avenue. The driver had unhitched his trailer and went to run an errand.He said the truck, which held about $46,000 worth of cheese was on its way from Green Bay to the New York City area."It's unique. It's a lot of cheese. It's a high-value property, and we're gonna take it seriously like we would any theft," Bolender said.Police said it's unclear if the cheese was targeted and was part of a larger heist. "There's all kinds of possibilities out there, and we're looking at all different aspects, so yeah, that's one possibility we're looking at," Bolender said.The business owner has 24-hour surveillance cameras on the property."We've had vehicles broken into and stolen, and I've had trailers stolen off the lot," Kevin Mifflin said.Mifflin hopes the stolen cheese trailer was caught on his cameras, so he spent Thursday morning combing through footage trying to find something solid for police."Right now we have several leads we're following up on. It's pretty fresh. We've got some things we're following up on and working the case right now," Bolender said.In January, a tractor-trailer carrying $70,000 worth of cheese products was stolen from a Germantown trucking company.
