George R.R. Martin: Outlander was robbed by Emmy noms

Outlander fans, your outrage over the Starz drama being snubbed in this year’s Emmy nominations is shared by none other than the author of HBO’s awards kingpin Game of Thrones.

On his blog, George R.R. Martin wrote that Outlander season 2 was “robbed” by the TV Academy, which ignored the series when nominating shows for major categories in its primetime awards this week.

“Outlander was robbed,” Martin wrote in his comments section. “All three leads were amazing… especially Tobias Menzies in his double role as Frank and Black Jack.” In addition to Outlander, Martin cited Penny Dreadful actress Eva Green as deserving of a nomination too. “Of course, every year has omissions. And right now it is harder than it has ever been. So many great great shows to watch,” he added.

Martin is friends with Outlander author Diana Gabaldon, and has been a vocal fan of her show. He also threw some praise at Thrones, which picked up 23 nominations, including best drama and acting noms for Lena Headey, Peter Dinklage, Maisie Williams, Kit Harington, and Emilia Clarke.

“I am thrilled and happy for all our nominees, of course … but it made me especially happy to see Kit and Maisie get some love from the Academy at last,” he wrote. “About damn time, I say. They are several years overdue. (And I would have loved to see Sophie Turner on that list as well. I know, I know, I’m greedy).”
