Politicians, they’re just like Us! Newly named vice presidential hopeful Mike Pence tweeted about eating dinner at a New York Chili's with his family Saturday, July 16, and Twitter users instantly reacted to the image.
“Busy weekend in NY!” he captioned the photo, in which he and his daughter sit on one side of the booth while his wife, Karen, smiles from the other side. “Enjoying a quick dinner with the family at @Chilis. Looking forward to getting back to Indiana.”
It didn’t take long for memes and commentary about Pence’s restaurant choice to crop up all over the internet. New Yorkers were up in arms over his choice of a chain restaurant over hundreds of other four- and five-star establishments.

Hey @mike_pence, you know we have 18,000 restaurants in NYC, right?

But the best taco bowls are made in Trump Tower Grill. I love Hispanics!

Such a shame there are no good restaurants in New York and you were forced to eat at Chilis. https://t.co/g97ZYQ8IQD @mike_pence

As previously reported, Donald Trump confirmed that he had selected Indiana Governor Pence, 57, as his vice presidential running mate Friday, July 15, after rumors that the pair were in talks to work together.
Later in the day, the joint Trump-Pence campaign logo was revealed, and social media had a field day, taking jabs at the suggestive design that featured a letter T for Trump penetrating the center of a P for Pence in blue.
“What exactly is the T doing to the P? #TrumpPence,” one commenter wrote. It was subsequently removed from Trump's website on Saturday.
