As you read books and mark them as complete on Goodreads, Goodreads will always suggest you publish a review about the book. Take this opportunity to review and tell all other potential readers whether or not this book is good or not, or whatever you feel might get someone interested/disinterested in the book. This article can tell you how to do this.

Method 1
Method 1 of 1:

Starting Your Review

  1. Open up your web browser to the Goodreads website.
  2. Click it and it will allow you to access your previous review or add a new review. Click this link.
  3. Look for "My rating".
  4. This is where you can leave a review for the book.
  5. If you think you're about to leave spoilers (either accidental or on-purpose), click the button 'next' to "hide entire review because of spoilers".
  6. The link called "add book/author" will allow you to include this book inside your review.
  7. It's best if you have previously finished this book in real-life, rather than saying you have when really haven't, and in grounds for your review getting deleted by Goodreads admins/Goodreads Librarians.
  8. (optional)
  9. Being that Goodreads is a social-bookmarking website, you can show your friends that you've added a review.
  10. Buttons for this publishing are shown at the bottom right hand corner of the review box.

  • Question
Why is my review of a book sitting right under the book's precis, and not with the other reviews?

Goodreads puts your review there so that you have easy access to it if you want to change or update it, or even just come back months or years later and want to see what you wrote. It only displays that way to you - to every other Goodreads user, your reviews sit with the other reviews, and their reviews (if any) appear right under the book's description.
  • Question
Can I edit and correct after a review is posted?

Yes, you certainly can. Find your reviews for that particular edition of the book (via the My Books) tab, scroll down on that book's profile page until you see the "My Review" area and look for the "Edit review" link/button. Click it and edit the details of your review.
  • Question
No matter where I look I can’t see where on Goodreads to write my review. I logged in to my account, I found the book that I want to review, but I still can’t find where to review it.

Look for a section labeled "My Review", which should be the section right below the main book's description. Locate the link called "Edit review". Also, after reading a book, when you add it to your "read" list, the box prompted by marking this will include space for making a review.

Tips

  • Note that it may take about a day for your review to appear in the list of all reviews provided. Until then, it will appear (for you) only in the "My Review" section of the page.
  • Some HTML text is allowed. However, only certain text-formatting HTML tags will work, while others won't.
  • If the book was sent to you for free, remember to put it on your review, even if you are allowed to use your personal opinion on it.
