Chahat Vig is all set to make her big Bollywood debut with Vardhan Ketkar's 'Gumraah' along with Aditya Roy Kapur and Mrunal Thakur. As she gears up for the release of the movie on April 7, ETimes got in touch with her for an exclusive interview where she opened up about her co-stars, being a movie buff, actors she looks up to in the industry, and more.
Excerpts...
It is quite an unconventional film for a debut. What really attracted you to your character?
Every character has its own story to tell, regardless of whether you get to see it all on screen or not. The opportunity to explore someone’s life, someone’s mindset in such an unconventional situation is what attracted me to the character.
Did you know about your co-stars before shooting? How excited were you?
I was made aware of my co-stars, and I was thrilled to have the opportunity to work with them and learn so much along the way. My father shared his wisdom with me when I got the project. He told me how we feel like we are on top of the world when we get great opportunities in life. However, it is at such times that we should remain calm, take a step back, and feel gratitude. This advice stayed with me and allowed me to function well at work and in life.

Aditya Roy Kapur commands a huge female fan following. Have you ever had a crush on him?
Aditya is a gorgeous human being and a great co-actor to work with. I wanted to be in films as a child, so I never fantasised about actors or celebrities; rather, I saw them with an eye of respect and as a source of relatability. Aditya has the same respect in my heart.
How is he as a co-star and as an actor?
He is a grounded and sincere actor who puts in the work and doesn’t shy away from expressing his mind during a scene. As a co-actor, he is great to work with. Doing scenes with him has felt like a breeze.
How was it working with Mrunal Thakur?
It has been such a wonderful experience. Mrunal is radiant, and her aura is comforting. Also, her journey inspires me! As an actor, she is well versed and comes in prepared. I am grateful for my experience with both Aditya and her.

From amongst the new generation of actors in Bollywood, who would you like to share screen space with?
Everyone from the new generation, or Gen Z, is doing such good and varied work. It is phenomenal, but the kind of work Ishaan Khattar is doing has intrigued me, and I would like to share screen space with him.
Have you grown up watching films? Who do you idolise?
Of course, films and musicals have been a huge part of my life growing up. My family has a ritual to watch a film every night, so the influence of films has been a constant in my life. I idolise various qualities in every actor/director I have come across. Rekha ji’s charm, Shah Rukh Khan's style of romance, Tiger Shroff’s humility, the list goes on.
What more does 2023 have in store for you?
2023 is a blessed year. The hard work I have put in for the last two years will be on screen soon, which is a surreal feeling. All I can say is that after 'Gumraah' look out for me on OTT. I have a number of projects coming out soon.
