Grandin Village is known in the Roanoke Valley for its funky vibe and local shops but now people around the world are learning it's a little different.

Here's the proof -- words on a sandwich board outside CUPS Coffee & Tea that went to the top of the Reddit online message board.

The board said:

"One small coffee"

$5.00

"One small coffee, please"

$3.00

"Hello, I'd like one small coffee please."

$1.75

People love the store's call for proper manners -- an upcharge if customers don't say "hello" and "please."

Austin Simms says he was just trying to be funny, not famous.

"I decided because I need to solve all the injustices of the world to start charging more for people who didn't take the time to say hello and connect and realize we're all people behind the counter," Simms said.

Simms says he wrote the message on Sunday. By Monday, it was in a newspaper in England. On Wednesday, a whole bunch of cameras started showing up.
