Can We Fix Your iPhone With Just One Question?

Another day, another iPhone fail. Tell us what's wrong:

First, try holding down the power (sleep/wake) button.   
If _that_ doesn't work, force-reset the device. Hold the home button and the power button at the same time for 10 seconds, until you see the Apple logo. Rebooting your iPhone this way simply cuts the power, but beware that it may cause corruption, so only use it as a last resort.

Force-restart your device.

Make sure you've upgraded to iOS 9. If you're running low RIGHT NOW, go to Settings > General > Battery and enable Low Power Mode. Next, go to Settings > Cellular and turn \*off\* Wi-Fi Assist. If you're really desperate, go to Settings > Accessibility > and turn Grayscale to ON. Finally, turn your phone face down so that it doesn't light up when you receive notifications. Go into Low Power Mode.

Constantly running out of space?? You can check Settings > General > Storage > Manage Storage to see what's the biggest culprit. It's most likely PHOTOS. Google Photos is an app that will store \*unlimited\* photos (16MP or less, so perfect for phone pics) and remove the originals from your device once they are already backed up. // If your iCloud account is full, it's most likely because it's storing old backups. Go to Settings > iCloud > Storage > Manage Storage. Then tap the outdated backup, then Delete Backup! \*\*For more tips, click the link below.\*\*

Find an alternative photo storage solution and delete old iCloud backups.

iPhone buttons typically stop working because of water damage, dirt, or drops but, luckily, there's an easy fix! // First, open Settings > Accessibility > AssistiveTouch and switch it to "on". Now you'll see a little black square. That's your new virtual home button! \*\*For more tips, click the link below.\*\*

Turn on AssistiveTouch.

Tap on the Wi-Fi network and select Forget This Network. Return to Settings > Wi-Fi, select the network again, and re-enter the password. // Still not working? Go to Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings. Beware: This deletes all of your stored passwords and networks. If you see full Wi-Fi signal, but can’t connect to the internet, reset your router and restart your phone. \*For more tips, click the link below.\*

Try to forget the network.

Before you do ANYTHING, backup your phone’s data using iCloud or iTunes. // iCracked provides an on-demand cracked screen repair in 30 minutes for about $180 for an iPhone 6s. The Apple Store will replace the screen for $130 to $150 depending on the model. Don't DIY unless you know what you're doing.

Even the FBI had trouble getting past a locked iPhone, so tough luck breaking through the Great Wall of Forgotten Passcodes. After six attempts, your iPhone will be disabled and you’ll be locked out for a period of time. // There are two ways to reset: If you have Find My iPhone is enabled, use iCloud. You can also connect it to a computer and, while it’s connected, press and hold the power and home buttons until you see the recovery screen pictured here. Unfortunately, there's not much you can do.

If you believe the device was stolen, report the device to your carrier to suspend service and blacklist your phone, which prevents anyone else from activating it. // If you have Find My iPhone, go to iCloud.com, click “All Devices”, and tap the missing device. Lost Mode protects the device with a passcode if there isn't one and lets you enter a phone number to display if it’s found. Erase iPhone will completely wipe the device remotely, but use this as a last resort, because you’ll lose access to Find My iPhone. \*For more tips, click the link below.\*

If you have Find My iPhone, put it into Lost Mode.

Retrieve it immediately, and if it is already powered off, do not attempt to turn it on, which could short-circuit the device, rendering it useless. If applicable, remove the case. Wipe off the liquid from the exterior and gently shake the device to free any liquid in its ports. // A common solution is to place the device in a bowl of uncooked rice, however a more effective method is to use silica gel packets or DampRid. It’ll take about two days to dry out the device completely.

DON'T TURN IT ON.
