ANDOVER, Mass. — Former Bruins hockey player Ray Bourque was arrested Friday night in Andover for allegedly driving drunk.
Andover Police said Bourque's Mercedes Benz rear-ended a Toyota Sienna near 5 Lowell St. around 11:30 p.m. Police said it was in a construction zone. He was arrested on scene for charges of OUI Liquor and following too closely.
Police said there were two people in Bourque's car and three in the other vehicle. No one was injured.
Bourque, 55, was a 1st round draft pick for the Bruins in 1979. He played for the team for 21 years. He finished his NHL career with the Colorado Avalanche, where he finally won a Stanley Cup.
Bourque, who lives in Boxford, holds records for most career goals, assists and points by a defenseman in the NHL.
Bourque is currently out on bail.
Police originally told FOX25 that Bourque was charged with a DWI. We have since learned that he was actually charged with an OUI Liquor.
