Will the titular Magic Mike pop, lock, and drop in a third film installment? According to producer and star Channing Tatum, that’s probably not going to happen.

Speaking at Cannes Lions in France, the actor said there are no plans for Magic Mike 3 at this time. Instead, he’s focusing on the upcoming stage productions inspired by the franchise.

“The third installment will be the show, and I think it has to evolve past these guys,” he said, according to The Hollywood Reporter. “The first one was about Mike, the second one was about the guys, and I think the third one is really about man and woman having a conversation about sex and themselves and who we all are. That’s the next step I would like to take with the story.”

Earlier this year, Tatum announced Magic Mike Live, what he called a “woman-empowering” stage performance in Las Vegas aiming “to change what male entertainment has been for years.” He even teased an on-stage Mike reprisal, plus other cameos. “If I’m ever in shape enough to actually do the show again, I will absolutely step on stage, just because it’s fun,” he said.

Tatum also told EW last year that the Magic Mike musical is still in the works. “Oddly enough, the second one lends itself more to the musical,” he remarked. “I think our original idea was to do a prequel, like how Mike got in.”

The actor will be seen down the road in Kingsman: The Golden Circle, Steven Soderbergh’s Logan Lucky, Gambit, and the crossover of Men in Black and Jump Street. Tatum is also producing the new action-comedy series Iron Fisting, and added at Cannes Lions that he plans on “slowing down the acting side” and would like to get into directing “soon.”
