For Competitive Play in the short term, Blizzard will be making changes to the way certain modes work. Initial match time for the Assault, Escort, and Hybrid maps will be reduced from five minutes to four minutes in order to make matches quicker. In addition, the Sudden Death Timer will be reduced from two minutes to one minute 45 seconds.
Eventually, Blizzard plans to remove Sudden Death altogether.
Long term, a "time bank" system will be implemented on Escort and Hybrid maps. Essentially, if both teams transport the payload to the end with time remaining, a second round begins, and whoever pushes their payload the farthest in the time they had left wins. This should reduce ties. IGN has more on Overwatch's competitive mode, as well as pictures of the fancy golden weapons you get as rewards. Matt Porter is a freelance writer based in London.
