Roadies trailer: Luke Wilson ready to rock in Cameron Crowe series

Cameron Crowe famously captured the story of a young man hitting the road with an up-and-coming rock band in 2000’s Almost Famous. Now the Oscar winner is turning the spotlight on a different side of life on the road, through the eyes of those referred to as Roadies.

J.J. Abrams and Winnie Holzman (who created My So-Called Life) serve as executive producers of the Showtime 10-episode series that will focus on the fictional band’s support staff. Luke Wilson, Carla Gugino, and Imogen Poots star in the series as some of those titular characters, their lives and work chronicled across a 43-city, 60-show tour.

“Each city [of the tour] is an episode,” Crowe told EW earlier this year about his foray into TV. “The show is about the crew, and it’s the family and the circus that exists behind the curtain that we don’t get to see. Their whole world ends when they’re able to put the band on stage, and begins again when the band comes off stage. The hour and 15 minutes when the band is on stage — that’s the only thing that’s off-limits in the show.”

In a new teaser trailer (above), set to Bronze Radio Return’s “Light Me Up,” we see much of that “circus,” described by one character as “a Fellini film crossed with a Monkees episode” — a clear allusion to the behind-the-scenes absurdity.

Catch it all when Roadies premieres June 26 at 10 p.m. ET on Showtime.
