When the New York Times came out on Sunday with no photographs by Bill Cunningham for the first time in decades, it may have marked the end of an era.
Cunningham, 87, is in the hospital “recovering from what appears to have been a stroke,” a Times spokeswoman told me.
“Bill’s family and senior editors from The Times have been in regular contact with him,” she said. “We believe that his recovery will be quick.”
Cunningham was the subject of a 2010 documentary, “Bill Cunningham New York,” which showed him riding around the city on his bicycle and in his spartan studio in the Carnegie Hall building.
