Volvo has commenced production of the all-new V90, four months after it was officially unveiled.

The first V90 rolled off the assembly line at the company’s plant in Torslanda, Sweden, which doubled its staff over the past two years to roughly 6,300 employees. Over that period, the brand also hired approximately one thousand engineers and continues to recruit in the Research and Development department.

Taking the new V90 into production is an important milestone for Volvo. We have invested heavily in preparing the Torslanda plant for building SPA vehicles and it is encouraging to see the positive response to the new 90 cars. We are going from strength to strength, as our transformation plan continues to bear fruit“, said President and Chief Executive Hakan Samuelsson.

Part of a $11 billion transformation program that was launched by Volvo in 2010, the new 90 series kicked off with the introduction of the new XC90 SUV, followed by the launch of the S90 sedan and now the V90 estate. These models are paving the road for the automaker, which will revamp its entire range over the next three years. The new Volvo family will include the next generation 40 series, underpinned by the Compact Modular Architecture (CMA), and the upcoming 60 series, which will ride on the SPA.
