America's Got Talent: Simon Cowell hits the golden buzzer

UPDATE: Rachel Platten, whose “Fight Song” Calysta Bevier sang on Tuesday night’s America’s Got Talent, finally got to see the performance that had people talking. She tweeted her reaction to Bevier, who was grateful for the kind words.

EARLIER: If Calysta Bevier doesn’t give you chills, well, we’re sorry for you, because she even moved Mr. Nasty himself, Simon Cowell, when she auditioned for America’s Got Talent on Tuesday night. After all, the 16-year-old is a cancer survivor. And she sang Rachel Platten’s anthemic “Fight Song.” Flawlessly.

“Calysta, I love everything about you,” Cowell gushed. “You know what? I just had this feeling when you walked out — I can’t explain it. Just your spirit, the choice of song, your voice: I think you’re really special. I’ve just got this really incredible feeling about you, I really do… I think everyone in this room felt it. I predict great things are going to happen for you. There’s something about you.

“Sorry, I’ve gotta do this,” he added before pressing the golden buzzer and sending Miss Bevier straight to through to the live show.

When the young Ohio native first took the AGT stage, judge Howie Mandel asked her who she compares herself to. “I don’t compare myself to anyone,” the singer said with confidence. When Mandel commented on her Audrey Hepburn-like appearance, Bevier explained that the look wasn’t exactly a style choice.

“I’m a survivor of stage 3 ovarian cancer,” she revealed. “I kind of came here today to show people that no matter what you’ve gone through to keep chasing your dreams.”

And she’ll be chasing her own dreams as America’s Got Talent continues on Tuesdays at 8 p.m. on NBC.
