The great grand-daughters of the founder of iconic Italian fashion house Gucci have dropped the price of their enormous New York penthouse to $US35 million.

Alessandra and Allegra Gucci, whose father Maurizio Gucci was the grandson of the fashion house’s founder Guccio Gucci, have re-listed the Fifth Avenue penthouse after it was first put on the market for $US45 million, reports Sky News Real Estate’s Prue Miller.

Maurizio bought the apartment in the 1970s and even by dream home standards, it’s a cut above.

Offering eight bedrooms and eight bathrooms, the 877 sqm apartment is set over two levels.

With direct views of the Rockefeller Centre and iconic St Patrick’s Cathedral, it boasts a sprawling lounge and entertaining area.

It also had a kitchen that wouldn’t be out of place in a country mansion, with views of the Empire State Building, if you please.

There are 28 floor-to ceiling windows to capture the incredible views over New York City and let in abundant natural light.

The apartment’s two-master bedroom suites have their own walk-in robes, dressing rooms, Jacuzzi tub and sauna.

A grand living room flows into an elegant library/den, which features wood panelling and a wood-burning fireplace, which is kept bathed in natural light by a large skylight.

The apartment is in the Olympic Tower building, which has also been home to Anne Hathaway and Nicolas Cage. It’s listed with Corcoran Group Real Estate.

The sisters have a tragic past – their father Maurizio was killed by a hit man in 1995, who was hired by their mother Patrizia Reggiani, after he left her for a younger woman.

Reggiani was convicted in 1998 and released in 2014 after serving 16 years in jail for the crime.
