Radiohead in Amsterdam: A Tour Opener Live Blog

Radiohead kick off their world tour in support of their excellent ninth LP, A Moon Shaped Pool, today at the Heineken Music Hall in Amsterdam. It's the band's first live show since they wrapped up their King of Limbs tour in Melbourne, Australia in November 2012. Like the album itself before its release, little is known about what the Moon Shaped Pool tour will involve, exactly. Extra musicians? A new stage set? New songs? (The band is known for debuting new material live.) Pitchfork is on the scene at the Heineken Music Hall today, and we'll be offering play-by-play live updates of what happens, in real time. We're starting when doors open, continuing through Holly Herndon's opening set, and will keep going until the end of the show. Note that all times listed are local time for Amsterdam. Radiohead is scheduled to take the stage at 8:30 p.m. Follow along with us below. Update 5/20 4:48 p.m. Eastern: The show has now ended.

7:20 p.m.: Jonny Greenwood randomly tweets a Sleaford Mods video:

7:30 p.m.: Holly Herndon takes the stage. It says "HOLY SHIT WE ARE OPENING FOR RADIOHEAD" on her screen.

8:00 p.m.: Holly Herndon's set has ended.

8:18 p.m.: Drummer Clive Deamer confirms that he's performing with the band:

8:35 p.m.: The band takes the stage. A recording of Nina Simone is played as they walk out. The band is all wearing dark clothes.

First song: "Burn the Witch." Lead by bass rather than strings. Video panels above the stage show each band member.

8:40 p.m.: "Daydreaming," led by Jonny Greenwood on piano.

8:46: p.m.: "Decks Dark." They appear to be playing the new album in order.

8:51 p.m.: "Desert Island Disk"

8:56 p.m.: "Ful Stop." Thom brings out a tiny keyboard.

9:02 p.m.: Thom says "We made it." Then, to Jonny, tuning his guitar, "You wanna get someone to do that for you mate." Then: "Morning Mr. Magpie" from The King of Limbs. No longer playing A Moon Shaped Pool in order.

9:07 p.m.: "Morning Mr. Magpie" has an extended outro.

9:08 p.m.: "There There." Both Ed and Jonny have added percussion.

9:13 p.m.: Piano moved center stage. "The Daily Mail." Thom has to start over because he's laughing.

9:18 p.m.: "My Iron Lung." Apparently the first time this song has been performed live in seven years.

9:20 p.m.: The piano comes out again. "Videotape."

9:29 p.m.: "Identikit."

9:34 p.m.: "The Numbers." Jonny on piano. Drummer Clive Deamer is playing bells attached to what appears to be a coat hanger.

9:39 p.m.: "The Gloaming." A heavily remixed version.

9:44 p.m.: "We are fully prepared for every eventuality," Thom says, before launching into "Lotus Flower." He's playing maracas.

9:48 p.m.: Thom sits at a synthesizer. "Everything in Its Right Place"

9:52 p.m.: "Idioteque"

9:58 p.m.: "Bodysnatchers"

10:02 p.m.: The band leaves the stage.

10:05 p.m.: They're back. "Bloom." Jonny playing a small drumkit.

10:11 p.m.: "Present Tense"

10:17 p.m.: "Paranoid Android"

10:24 p.m.: The synth comes back out for Thom. "Tinker Tailor Soldier Sailor Rich Man Poor Man Beggar Man Thief." Jonny is playing the orchestral parts on a synthesizer.

10:29 p.m.: "We're just gonna write some simpler songs. Too late now," Thom jokes, before "Weird Fishes / Arpeggi."

10:35 p.m.: "Thank you all for coming. Thank you very much." The band leaves the stage again.

10:38 p.m.: The band returns. The piano is wheeled back out. "You And Whose Army." Thom makes funny faces at the audiences.

10:42 p.m.: "There's a lot more that I can say but I'm not going to," Thom says. "Because I'm going to play this and that says it all." He thanks Holly Herndon for supporting.

10:43 p.m. "Reckoner"

10:48 p.m: The end. After the band leaves the stage, "Glisten" by SEMYA plays.
