Carmelo Anthony to Knicks: Take advantage of my window

Carmelo Anthony and New York Knicks management had a meeting Thursday about the team’s future, reports ESPN’s Ian Begley.

In the meeting, Anthony reportedly told New York’s higher-ups that they should take advantage of the window of time that he has left to play when pursuing players this off-season.

“I think that’s the main question,” Anthony, 31, said. “How can we take advantage of this window? How can we take advantage of this situation that we have in front of us?”

Following a disappointing season in which the Knicks finished 32–50 and in 13th place in the Eastern Conference, New York possesses at least $18 million to spend in free agency this summer, while also having a coaching vacancy to fill.

“The only thing I think about is winning more,” Anthony added. “Whether it’s here or somewhere else, that’s the only thing I think about. I haven’t thought about putting myself on another team. I haven’t thought about me on another team. I haven’t thought about any of that. My thought process is, how can I make this situation better? What can we do to make this situation better? That’s the only thing I’m thinking about.”

The 13-year NBA veteran has a no-trade clause in his contract, which has three years remaining on it.
