Large sinkhole opens up in middle of California street

MADERA, Calif., April 12 (UPI) -- A California police department shared video of a 15-to-20-foot-deep sinkhole forming in the middle of a road.

The Madera Police Department shared video and pictures on Facebook of the hole opening in the middle of Schnoor street and growing to a hole measuring about 12 feet by 15 feet.

The hole is estimated to be 15-to-20-feet deep.

"It is unknown what exactly caused the damage but it is likely due to the recent rains," the Facebook post said. "The street fell into the sewage line."

Police said the street is expected to be closed for an extended length of time for repairs.
