Empire Season 2 Episode 10 Recap: There goes the Empire?

Emp_210-S2-Alicia-Keys-JamalOn last week’s episode of Empire, we got to see the shocking kiss between Skye and Jamal. A new relationship might be budding, but we won’t be able to see much of where it goes — because this week is the Fall Finale of Empire. Sadly, this means we’ll have to endure a long break from our favorite show.

The American Sound Awards nominees are being announced and Lucious already knows Empire artists will be on that list. Sure enough, Jamal is nominated for Best R&B Song with his song “Heavy,” but let’s see if he can be the first to bring home an award for Empire.

I have no doubt that Jamal can score an award, but I don’t know how he’ll be able to deal with Skye after that kiss. It seems that Lucious thinks she’s “fixed” him but Jamal tells his dad that he’s still gay. Jamal might want to let Skye in on how he feels before she starts to fall for him even more.

Tiana has the honor of announcing the next list of nominees. Cookie is excited because it’s for Hakeem’s category, Rapper of the Year. Tiana starts reading off the names and instead of saying Hakeem’s name, she says Freda’s in confusion. Yup, Freda snubbed Hakeem from his nomination.

Ouch! That’s cold.

EMP-S2_210-Hakeem-PrisonCookie is a strong woman who sticks to her words. In order to repay Pepper for helping her find Carol, Cookie returns to the prison where she was held for what seemed like an eternity. She wants to give back to the girls that kept her sane while she was in there by giving them a free mini concert with Hakeem and Laura.

Announcing the business deal with Swift Stream was supposed to be a celebratory event for Lucious. What he didn’t see coming was a ghost from his past joining him and Mimi on stage after the announcement at Empire. Turns out Mimi’s wonderful wife who has helped her get through breast cancer is also Hakeem’s ex-girlfriend, Camilla. Oh yeah, Lucious knows she’s up to something.

It only gets better, at least for Mimi and Camilla.

Mimi turned into Nancy Drew and got her hands on a high-tech spy pen while she was in a meeting with Lucious. She was using it to record both visual and audio proof for the board members to see what Lucious thought about them. You bet she unveiled that proof in front of everyone, including Lucious and Andre, during a board meeting. Her motive: Get Lucious removed as CEO and chairman of Empire. Mimi is one sneaky little rat! But Lucious also has a slick person on his team in Thirsty. Let the battles begin.

Andre and Thirsty are sent on the mission to make sure they get every board member’s vote before Mimi’s meeting. While it appears that they’re going to lose, Andre goes to the prison to let Cookie in on what’s going on. Hakeem learns who Camilla has married and that she’s a part of this mess.

Since Cookie can’t leave her concert with the women to attend the board meeting, Andre has her sign her voting rights away to Hakeem. Let’s hope love doesn’t blur his decision while he has the power of two votes.

Even though Lucious has a dark side to him, I think he should still be in charge of Empire. Just as I feared, Hakeem started thinking about all the evil that Lucious caused and voted against his father. Cookie arrived just before she could do anything to change his mind but did have time to spit in Camilla’s face. Cookie is everything!

Mimi immediately announces that while she’ll be away from the office during radiation, Camilla will be in charge. I highly doubt Camilla will be able to take charge of Empire without making it sink.

I knew this episode wouldn’t be complete without seeing what crazy Anika has up her sleeve. Since she’s jealous of the way Lucious has treated Rhonda and her baby, she wants to fix that issue. My guess is, she wants to be the only one who is pregnant with the heir to the throne. Little does she know, that throne is now gone. So I guess it really was pointless for her to sneak into Rhonda’s house and push her down the stairs. Having a staircase like that in my own home has been a dream of mine, but now I’m not too sure. That thing just bounced Rhonda around like a rag doll with every twist and turn. Thanks for the heads up, Anika.

The one award that Lucious was never nominated for was the Song of the Year title. For the first time in American Sound Awards history, father and son are now going head-to-head for the award. Both Jamal and Lucious are nominated and want it more than anything. This will be an entertaining battle.

What were your thoughts on the Fall Finale of Empire? Do you think Mimi was interested in taking over Empire or did Camilla introduce the idea to her? I doubt their love is real so someone had to come up with the idea. I also don’t believe that Camilla is going to help Hakeem launch his career. Could you believe it that Hakeem voted against his own father? I think he’s suffered the least amount of torture from Lucious out of all the brothers. Do you think Rhonda will make it out alive? What about the baby? I hope they catch Anika for what she’s done. Now that Lucious has finally been nominated for this award, do you think he’ll fight against Jamal? It’s all he has left.
