Mariah Carey is officially getting her own TV show: The singer announced Tuesday via The New York Times that she’ll star in an eight-part documentary series on E! titled Mariah’s World.

“I refuse to call it a reality show,” she told the Times. “I thought it would be a good opportunity to kind of, like, show my personality and who I am, even though I feel like my real fans have an idea of who I am. A lot of people have misperceptions about this and that.”

Although Carey’s most known for her music, she’s spent a good amount of time in front of television cameras hosting American Idol‘s 12th season in 2013 and memorably taking viewers on a tour of her home for a 2002 episode of MTV’s Cribs.

Carey tells the Times that she has the power to cut any footage she doesn’t want on the show, which began filming in early March, and will avoid including her 4-year-old twins.

“I don’t want to do anything that’s exploitative,” she said, adding that her kids haven’t been filmed yet. “There might be a couple of moments, but it’s not about making them the stars of the show. They’re too young to make that decision.”

Mariah’s World doesn’t have a firm debut date yet but is set to premiere later in 2016. Read more of Carey’s New York Times interview here.
