When Cars 3 hums up to the starting line, expect it to drive less like the spy-action of Cars 2 and more like the first movie.

Pixar exec and director John Lasseter teased the upcoming project on the Finding Dory blue carpet in talking to EW’s Marc Snetiker.

“Lightning McQueen, he’s awesome. We’ve got some great new characters, some great racing in it. It’s a very emotional story. It’s a little bit more akin to Cars 1, where you get into a deep emotion with him,” Lasseter said Wednesday. “It’s really a special story. It’s very emotional and his relationship with Doc Hudson, and his memory of Doc Hudson.”

Paul Newman voiced the sage Doc in 2006’s Cars, but the character did not appear with another voice actor in Cars 2 after the Oscar-winner’s death in 2008.

Cars 3 swerves into theaters June 16, 2017.
