AFTER DELAYS, GLITCHES

Comelec source codes now safe with BSP

The Commission on Elections on Friday finally brought the trusted build for the three components of the automated poll system to the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas for safekeeping.

This developed after a series of "rebuilds" had to be done for the software of the election management system (EMS), vote counting machine (VCM), and the canvassing consolidation system (CCS).

The poll body was supposed to put the codes on escrow at the BSP on Tuesday, but the deposit was postponed after the glitches surfaced.

According to Comelec chair Andres Bautista, the endeavor is part of the Comelec's compliance with the law.

He added that an end-to-end test was conducted Thursday to see if the problems have been addressed.

"Sa source code, mukhang okay na tayo. Nagkaroon ng end-to-end test, okay naman," he said. "I was informed that it was successful."

With this, Bautista said the mock elections in 20 locations around the country will push through on Saturday, adding that there is a possibility some glitches may still come up.

"Now, because of this, tomorrow, we will proceed with the mock elections and we will see what will happen," he said. "Let's wait and see since we're going through a process. I don't thing having issues at this stage is something that should be feared." -NB, GMA News
