SEDGWICK COUNTY, Kansas – A big shakeup in the communications department in Sedgwick County; KSN has learned that Sedgwick County Communications Director Kristi Zukovich has stepped down.
KSN spoke with commissioners about how the county plans to move forward by re-structuring its communication strategy with the public and the media.
Neither Zukovich, who served the county for decades or the county manager, responded to KSN’s requests for comment.
Commissioners explained how the county will get information to the public after re-organizing its communication department.
“Somebody who might read between the lines might think we’re going to stop communicating and I think that’s the opposite of what’s happening,” said county commissioner Jim Howell. “In my opinion, you know, sometimes you’ve gotta start from scratch.”
And starting from scratch is exactly what the county plans on doing.
Commissioner Jim Howell says he believes the direction the county is headed in involves a stronger emphasis on social media and more updates to keep the public informed on day-to-day information.
Something he says hasn’t been done in the past.
“I see this as basically moving from what I would call kind of a minimum effort to a maximum effort and what you’re going to see in my opinion is a huge step up in the way that Sedgwick County is communicating,” Howell said.
Another commissioner KSN spoke with expressed his sincere thanks to Zukovich, saying she did a great job for the county and he’s sad to see her go.
