Porsche Is Readying Two Premieres For Geneva

Porsche’s star cars at the upcoming auto show will be a couple of new models; one of them quite obvious, the other still a mystery.

The first one will be “a strictly limited-edition vehicle“, but we might be looking at the exciting new 911 R, which will be based on the popular GT3 and be limited to just 600 units worldwide.

The GT’s bodywork will be similar to the GT3, but the wing and wide wheels will be deleted. Most importantly, the 911 R is believed to benefit from a standard six-speed manual transmission, similar to the one from the Cayman GT4, which will have to cope with approximately 500hp, tipped to come from the naturally aspirated 4.0-liter six-pot mill from the GT3 RS.

Porsche’s second Geneva debut will be the 718 Boxster, revealed last month with its updated design and “718” moniker, as a reminder of the mid-engine sports cars that won numerous races in the ’50s and ’60s. The brand offers the roadster in two versions, equipped with two engines, a 296hp 2.0-liter and 345hp 2.5-liter, both offered a standard six-speed manual and an optional PDK.

Reports on a possible coupe version of the new Porsche 718 Boxster, dubbed as the 718 Cayman. No surprise there, as lots of prototypes have been testing for a long time and, after the roadster, the hard-top was bound to follow very soon.
