The column that says if George McLaughlin wants the humpback bridge now gathering dust in the city park restored as a walking bridge, he should form a committee to come up with a plan, then take that plan to Bridgeton Mayor Albert Kelly, never one to turn down a great idea.

Since 1987, Gateway Community Action Partnership has served individuals and families in Cumberland, Gloucester and Salem counties as the designated Community Action Partnership agency, as well as providing additional services on a limited basis in other surrounding counties.

The agency serves more than 50,000 unduplicated clients annually.

Gateway hopes golfers will save the date and hit the fairways of Seaview's historic Bay Course, a magnificent facility that hosted a PGA Championship won by the legendary Sam Snead and several LPGA events, on May 14.

For additional golf classic information, including sponsorship opportunities or to register a foursome or to partner with Gateway to support this event, call 856-497-6652.

Cumberland Regional High School, in partnership with the Bridgeton Public Library, will host a film screening on Friday, May 1, from 6 to 8 p.m. and a poetry workshop on Saturday, May 2, from 1 to 3 p.m., featuring award-winning author and poet Maria Mazziotti Gillan.

On the evening of May 1 in the Media Center, there will be a screening of "All That Lies Between Us," a moving account of the life and work of Ms. Gillan, whose humble upbringing in an Italian-American enclave of Paterson inspired much of her writing.

Filmmakers and poets Mark Hillringhouse and Robert G. Evans will discuss the making of the film, and there will be open mic opportunities for audience participation.

The workshop on May 2, also in the Media Center, will offer a supportive environment for beginner, intermediate, and expert poets to generate new poems and to be guided in thinking about poetry -- writing, reading, listening and discussing.

All are welcome.

For more information, please contact Mr. Evans at evans@crhsd.org.
