Android 5.0.1 has barely been making it out to Nexus devices over the air for the last few weeks to a month, albeit mostly Nexus devices with a few non-nexus phones receiving it as well, and already Google has posted a factory image for Android 5.0.2 LRX22G for the Nexus 7 (nakasi) model on the factory image page. For those that are unaware, that’s the WiFi only model of the Nexus 7 from 2012, as the LTE model has yet to even receive any software updates for Android 5.0. While this is merely a factory image at this point and there hasn’t been any arrival of OTA software for this version of Lollipop, there is a chance that the OTA’s could be on there way and for more than just the WiFi Nexus 7.

In Android 5.0 it had seemed there were some users that came in contact with bugs revolving around WiFi and calling (at least on the Nexus 5), and on the Nexus 7 there were complaints of issues and bugs related to factory resets and video playback issues on some Nexus 7 models for some users, but not all. Other issues that seemingly got squashed with Android 5.0.1 were bugs revolving around Bluetooth, battery life issues, and as stated above, WiFi.

Since Android 5.0.1 was supposed to be a bug fixer, (and it was for many or most) what’s the deal with Android 5.0.2 getting a factory image upload and possibly an upcoming OTA so quickly after 5.0.1 hit the Nexus 7? Chances are likely that this is just another bug fix update, as users had complained about other various bugs after installing Android 5.0.1, like more WiFi bugs, issues with the screen rotation, audio issues, more Bluetooth issues, and even some problems with the OK Google command. Many of these issues can be found in the Nexus help forums where users are complaining about them after the recent 5.0.1 install, which probably means this update to 5.0.2 will end up fixing some more of the bugs that either remained or showed up for the first time after updating to Android 5.0.1 from 5.0. If you still use a 2012 WiFi only Nexus 7, be on the lookout for the update OTA to hit your status bar and if we notice the OTA zips pop up we’ll be sure to alert you and post them for your download consumption. In the meantime, if you want to flash the factory image you can grab it from the source link below which goes straight to the Google factory image webpage, or if you don’t want to mess with scrolling you can grab the download from this link here, which is direct from the factory image webpage as well.
