“Sustainable Westchester will help participating municipalities build healthier and more sustainable communities through energy efficiency and related programs and policies," the League said in a statement. Herb Oringel, chair of the Sustainable Westchester steering committee, accepted the award.

"We are happy to accept this award on behalf of all our member communities throughout the county, their staff and volunteers, who are doing so such much to ensure a bright future for Westchester,” said Oringel.  Also honored was Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano. He has launched one of the most ambitious and comprehensive energy plans of any city in the state – Yonkers Green City – saving taxpayers millions of dollars in energy costs, while protecting the environment. Yonkers is also a member of Sustainable Westchester.  The evening’s keynote speaker was Richard Kauffman, Chairman of Energy and Finance for New York State, who is leading the state’s comprehensive strategy to build a cleaner, more resilient and affordable energy infrastructure.  For more information on the award, visit www.nylcv.org or to www.sustainablewestchester.org.
