LMFAO's Redfoo wants to mediate for himself in Rick Ross lawsuit

Redfoo, half of the electropop group LMFAO, evidently believes his abilities extend far beyond imploring people to party. He also, apparently, is qualified to lead a mediation in a legal case.

LMFAO – Stefan Gordy (Redfoo) and his nephew Skyler Gordy (Sky Blu) – are being sued by the rapper Rick Ross over their song Party Rock Anthem, specifically the line “every day I’m shufflin’”, which Ross feels bears too close a resemblance to “every day I’m hustlin’”, from his own song Hustlin’.

Ross is claiming infringement of both copyright and trademark, the first claim relating to the similarity between the songs, the second to the use of the phrase on merchandise. After an initial court hearing, the case is going to mediation, and the Hollywood Reporter notes that the defendants have submitted a motion stating: “Stefan Gordy will take the lead in the mediation, and the other defendants will be looking to him to either resolve the matter or to continue to litigate.”

Ross, however, believes RedFoo is deliberately excluding Sky Blu from the mediation and has demanded he be present. Ross’s lawyers have suggested Redfoo has not had his nephew’s best interests at heart. Their response read: “With respect to Skyler Gordy’s non-attendance, Plaintiffs are concerned about Stefan Gordy’s acting entirely in his stead in light of Skyler Gordy’s deposition testimony that he was never apprised of pre-suit settlement offers by plaintiffs and that one of the main reasons for the breakup of the musical duo was the fact that Skyler Gordy had not been kept apprised of pertinent matters. Moreover, the representation that Stefan Gordy intends to single-handedly wrest control over the mediation process in advance of the mediation is disturbing.”

They have also insisted that companies that used Party Rock Anthem in commercials should be present, since “that represents a large damages part of the case”.
