Real-estate obsessed New Yorkers now have a new way to check out apartments — in 3-D.
StreetEasy has partnered with Floored, a Chelsea-based tech company, to transform two-dimensional floor plans — a key part of online listings — into three-dimensional models.
“Floor plans are a huge part of residential listings” for savvy shoppers “who are really into understanding layouts and how rooms flow into each other,” said Susan Daimler, general manager of StreetEasy.
The 3-D option is launching on Wednesday.
“3-D models usually require special equipment and are time consuming to create,” Daimler said.
“The fact that we can digitally translate 2-D floor plans into 3-D models in 24 hours is groundbreaking. It dramatically increases the listings’ quality, and is an extra special way for home shoppers to imagine and envision the spaces,”
Potential buyers can view the 3-D models on computers or smartphones, said David Eisenberg, CEO of Floored.
And 3-D options will keep growing. “Initially, you can rotate the floor plan in 3-D to see the heights of the windows and how rooms connect,” he said.
Future options may include the ability to move furniture around in a 3-D model and to have a shopper “walk” through the space.
