SOCIAL workers could not have done anything to prevent the death of tragic toddler Mikaeel Kular, a report has found.

The three-year-old was beaten to death by his mother Rosdeep in January 2014. The 34-year-old wrapped his body in a duvet and buried him in a suitcase in woods behind her sister’s house in Kirkcaldy, Fife. The little boy was left with 40 separate injuries.

She then returned to her Edinburgh home and reported her son missing, sparking a massive search involving hundreds of locals and emergency workers.

Soon after the body was discovered, Kular, who was known by her married name of Adekoya, admitted the killing and a significant case review was launched.

And yesterday, the report said Mikaeel’s death could “not have been predicted”.

It said Mikaeel’s family had extended contact with social services in Fife and Edinburgh after Adekoya left her children alone when she went drinking in July 2012.

Mikaeel was taken into foster care after this incident and was returned to his mother in August 2013.

Steve Grimmond, speaking on behalf of both councils, said: “The central finding of the report states that the circumstances that led to Mikaeel’s death could not have been predicted.

“Adekoya’s ability to physically care for him was never in question.

“It’s important to stress that professionals who had regular contact with the family never had any concerns about the physical care of Mikaeel throughout this case.”
