Chrome: Browser cookies aren’t inherently evil, but third-party cookies can lead to unwanted tracking. AVG’s new Chrome extension Crumble aims to alleviate that problem by blocking trackers, without breaking the sites you visit.
What makes Crumble stand out is AVG’s claim that it can identify cookies based on type, not specific blacklists. This means that a new ad network, or one that’s adapted to existing lists, is just as vulnerable to Crumble as an established one would be. The company also says that it blocks cookies in such a way that it doesn’t break site functionality, which is usually a risk whenever you’re selectively disabling elements of a web page without knowing exactly what they do.
