How can you maintain a positive mentoring relationship during career transitions?
Gratitude and positive intent act as powerful catalysts in any business scenario. When you express appreciation to a mentor for their valuable guidance, it not only fosters your growth but also aids in navigating transitions. In cases where your mentor is the one transitioning, consider the possibility of reversing roles – you might offer guidance to them during their change. Positive mentoring relationships frequently endure and adapt, even amidst career shifts.

How can you use resilience to enhance creativity and innovation?
A common barrier to creative thinking and action is micromanaging. Micromanaging is a surefire way to kill creativity. Trust your team and give them permission to make mistakes. When they know you support them, they'll have more confidence to fearlessly stretch their limits. Simply put, leaders who create a culture of trust effectively drive creativity and innovation.

What are some best practices for coaching and mentoring employees from different backgrounds and identities?
Effective coaching engagements often begin with conversations about an employee’s essence and core values that have resulted from their background and identity. Such conversations allow an employee to step back to understand where they are truly rooted in sorting their goals and approach to achieving them. This creates the space for employees to validate their beliefs against their experience and the journey they’ve been on to date. Such a conversation also allows the coach to determine the approach to advancing the employee through critical conversations while listening for aspects of the coaching interaction that directly lend themselves toward this essence and the core values identified.

What are the key skills and competencies that you look for when hiring or mentoring junior consultants?
It's important to have junior employees who can engage in collaborative objectivity. That is, they need to have enough confidence in their intelligence and thought process to bring forward their perspectives on decisions when they are in the process of being made--whether in agreement or not. On the other hand, junior employees should implement decisions once they have been made. Such a balance of qualities allows leaders to tap into varied perspectives in decision-making while also experiencing the benefits of consistent execution for optimal business operations. Junior employees may be afraid to speak out when they see an opportunity for improvement or reason for change at their job, for fear they'll seem presumptuous or won't be heard.
