Pinoy peacekeepers to receive arrival honors, additional allowance after quarantine

The 25 personnel of the Philippine National Police (PNP) and the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) who were part of the United Nations (UN) peacekeeping team from Liberia will be given arrival honors and additional allowance after they completed the mandatory 21-day quarantine on Caballo Island.

In a press statement, Interior Secretary Mar Roxas said that apart from the medical assistance currently being extended by the DILG to the peacekeepers, the 25 PNP and BJMP personnel are also set to be awarded with medals of honor from the DILG and the UN in a ceremony to be held upon their arrival in Manila after the quarantine.

Roxas said the peacekeepers will also receive additional subsistence allowance subject to accounting and auditing procedures and a 30-day vacation leave with pay.

"We recognize them for their service overseas and it is only fitting that their home country honored them for their deeds,” Roxas said.

The 25 PNP and BJMP personnel were part of the 136 Filipino peacekeepers who arrived last week from the Ebola-hit country Liberia. The other peacekeepers are from the Armed Forces of the Philippines.

The peacekeepers are mandated to remain on Caballo Island for 21 days under the supervision of the DOH to ensure that they are not infected with the deadly Ebola Virus. — Elizabeth Marcelo/RSJ, GMA News
