Report: Daley Blind Becomes Newest FC Barcelona Target

The talented Dutch defender had a great run at the World Cup, and Barça could be looking at him to be the new center-back

There's a new, strong rumour surrounding FC Barcelona's center-back pursuit. And it's an interesting one.

According to a report from Mundo Deportivo, that's Daley Blind. The 24-year-old defender/midfielder impressed with a great performance at the World Cup, with games as central defender, left-back and left-midfielder, doing well in all of them. His versatility is something that Barça allegedly likes, and he could become the next target for the Blaugrana's defensive system.

Coincidentally enough, he is in Barcelona, enjoying some vacation time. Another coincidence: his current manager, Frank De Boer of Ajax, will travel to Catalunya on Monday. There's no official reason why, but multiple reports believe that he is going to meet with Barça officials to discuss an eventual offer.

Blind's agent, Rob Jansen -- which is also the agent of Barcelona's Ibrahim Afellay-- , told Dutch magazine Voetbal International that "there's nothing concrete, but the rumours of today could very well become a reality tomorrow", when asked specifically about the Barça rumours.

There's no word yet on what the fee would be, and Jansen says he and his player are waiting for the market to get more active, so maybe his value goes up a bit. Blind is a target of Premier League's Manchester United, which is looking for new center-backs, just like Barça. What could help the English side is that the team's new manager, Louis Van Gaal, coached Blind in the Netherlands team at the World Cup.

But, if the rumours are true, Barcelona could reach a deal before United makes any move, and we might see a new Dutch face wearing a Blaugrana shirt.
