    Jean Jackets With New DNA

Miranda Priestly’s wicked rebuke to her staff, “Florals? For Spring? Groundbreaking,” comes to mind when noting the big denim push that comes around each April. A denim jacket for spring is scarcely revolutionary, but a bunch of buzzy labels are pushing the boundary of what a cool jean jacket can be. There’s a roomy drop-shoulder jacket from the reliably off-kilter but unpretentious New York label Eckhaus Latta. Objects Without Meaning, a low-key line in Los Angeles, does a short smock style. And the genre-bending Los Angeles label 69 has what may as well be a boxing robe. More eccentric than pretty, they represent a far from boring way to shake up everyday denim.

A Fun Way to Wear Summer Platforms Now

Anyone who has sprung for a pair of spring’s must-have platforms is eager to break them out. But unless the temperature speedily turns to full-on sandal mode, don’t push it. Just wear your platforms with a pair of cute socks, and take a cue from the street shots here and mix up prints and colors. (Bright tights will work, too.) You’ll get to show off your pedicure soon enough.

Getting a Jump on Dress Season

It isn’t easy to wear conspicuous frills without looking like an attenuated infant, but who isn’t ready for a bit of froth after the endless winter? At London Fashion Week, the young Ukrainian designer Anna K (above, center) got it right when she wore one of her girlish bow-bedecked dresses with a mannish Comme des Garçons coat and thigh-high boots. The feminine-tough contrast and neutral hues (navy, beige and army green are all good) kept the look stylish and seasonally suitable. Later, she can style up the dress with summer accessories. Here, a couple of girlie options to wear now and into dress season.

    Post-Winter Fur: Less Is More

Fur is making a play for your spring and summer wardrobe. The Stuart Vevers Coach collection led off with jackets in pastel fluff — for spring. Sophia Webster worked with the faux-fur label Shrimps on sandals trimmed in fuzz. Much of Simone Rocha’s collection dripped with the stuff. But to wear it as the mercury climbs, less is best. These Tuleste fur puffs, in pastels and brights, are an unexpected alternative to jangly statement earrings: fur exclamation points for summer’s sweeping dresses and a tan.
